Decatur Preservation Alliance
The Decatur Preservation Alliance (DPA) has 200 members who work locally to connect the community through the preservation of Decatur's historic structures and greenspaces. In just a few short years the DPA has taken on several successful preservation projects including the Woodlands master plan, Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service in South Decatur, creation of a "preservation corridor" committee, Decatur cemetery tree planting, and the relocation and stabilization of the Fraser building and the Decatur Depot.

The Old Courthouse on the Square was constructed in 1898, but suffered extensive fire damage in 1917 and was rebuilt using the granite walls and great columns of the original structure.

A resource for Decatur and DeKalb County history, The DeKalb History Center is housed in the Old Courthouse on the Square at the intersection of Clairemont and Ponce de Leon Avenues. There you'll find the Jim Cherry museum which presents new and ongoing exhibits about DeKalb County history and Civil War memorabilia. Visitors to Decatur can also find helpful information at the Welcome Center located inside the front door.
