Decatur Focus Newsletter

Inside the January-February Issue

Cover Story: Congratulations to Decatur's Newest Hometown Heroes

Decatur honored 12 Hometown Heroes for contributions made to the city in 2016: Myles Baker, James Brewer-Calvert, Diane Capriola, Genia Cayce, Scott Doyon, Dr. Gloria Jacobson, Dr. William Marianchuck, Tim Pettus, Loie Valentine, Laurel Wilson, Rus Wood; and Madison Avenue Soap Box Derby Founders: Jason Cattanach, Cameron DiCarlo, Marco DiCarlo, Sterling Roach, Anthony Scalese, Raul Trujillo.
Decatur began its Hometown Heroes program in 1996 at the close of the Hometown to the World Festival held during the Olympics. The 14-day festival was a success because of the hundreds of volunteers who helped. At the close of the festival, the City Commission honored volunteers. Since then the Hometown Hero awards have been presented annually.
With the 2016 presentation, Decatur has designated 301 Hometown Heroes.

Also inside this issue: Announcements and information about city services, downtown development, school news, business news, events, and news about your neighbors and neighborhood associations.
