Solid Waste Collections
Look for door hangers with holiday collection schedules as pictured at right. (Please disregard DeKalb County notices about solid waste and recycling services.)
Collection Day. The City of Decatur single family residential garbage collection service is divided into four service days: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. (follow link to see your service day)
Set Out Time. All garbage, trash, recyclables, yard trimmings, furniture and appliances for collection must be ready for collection by 7:30 a.m. on collection day. (See code section 82-34 (e) in the City of Decatur Code of Ordinances.) Collector arrival time will vary according to many conditions, but in no event will a collector arrive before 7:30 a.m.
Containers on the Curb. Refuse and recycling containers should not be placed at the curb prior to 5 p.m. the day before collection and must be removed from the curb by midnight on collection day. (See code section 82-34 (f) in the City of Decatur Code of Ordinances.)
Garbage Must Be Accessible. Garbage collected from the rear or side yard must be accessible to the refuse collection vehicle (scooter) (see code section 82-34 (c) (2) (d) in the City of Decatur Code of Ordinances) for reasons of safety, liability and efficiency. Also for these reasons, recycling bins must be placed at the curbside in order to be accessible for recycling collection.

Pay-As-You-Throw Refuse Bags
The price of PAYT bags per pack of 10:
8 gallon (green) – $4.07
15 gallon (yellow) – $6.96
33 gallon (blue) – $14.45
The price includes the cost of disposing of the bag filled with refuse in a landfill; the cost of the bag itself; and state sales tax.
